Lindley Hut is by far the largest of the Braun huts (all located south of Aspen). Some of the other ones are smaller, but they all sleep at least 8 people comfortable. The wood stoves really heat up the place. You have to reserve the entire hut for your group when you book.

The 10th Mountain Huts (located between Vail, Leadville, and Aspen) are much bigger, and resemble luxurious chalets. You can just reserve 'spaces' in these huts along with random strangers, which adds to a more of a 'hostel' style vibe.

Learned something today. I always thought those backcountry "huts" were tiny one-room shelters with maybe a couple of bunks and a wood stove for heat. By comparison, this looks like a hotel!

@piedtype,

You're right. If I was all about the ride down, its much more efficient to go to a ski resort. However, as I always say: 'The glory is in the climb!'

All that time and effort for a 30-sec ride. What an addiction!

Loved seeing pics of Brainard in winter. I've been up there a lot, but only in summer and fall. Always nice to get away to its relative solitude (vs RMNP). I'm as bad as most others, knowing it's there close by, and still motoring right on by to go up to the park. But I'm an old softie now, wanting my fast food and shopping and wildlife viewing from the car, all within 20 min of each other.
